Modrus-Fiume County Coat of Arms Modruš-Rijeka Coat of Arms during the Austrian Hungarian Empire. Note the chess board which is currently used in Croatian emblems and flags. The territory that would become Modruš-Rijeka county became part of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 12th century. Modruš-Rijeka county was created in the late 18th century. In 1918 (confirmed by the Treaty of Trianon 1920), the county became part of the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Yugoslavia). Since 1991, when Croatia became independent from Yugoslavia, the county is part of Croatia.

Robert (Bob) Mekinda served on USS CANBERRA, launched on 19 April 1943, and placed out of commission on 6 July 1946 as per here. and MEKINDA JOSEPH A. served on USS NORTH CAROLINA as evidenced on the crew record here. This ship was commissioned on 9 April 1941, and decommissioned 27 June 1947. 

The name Mekinda is dominant in Cameroon, Africa. Daniel Mekinda who lives in Canada, and has extensively traveled in West African will report in near future on this site about the African connection.
